Travis is post-Britpop alternative rock band often credited as “inventing Coldplay.†The band formed in Glasgow in 1990 and was initially known as “Glass Onionâ€, after the Beatles’ song of the same title. Chris and Geoff Martyn had formed this band and invited current drummer, Andy Dunlop to play guitar in it. While Billy Menmuir was the original drummer, he was eventually replaced by Neil Primrose. While performing in Glass Onion, Primrose was working in Horseshoe Bar in Glasgow. It was at this bar that Primrose met bassist Dougie Payne and lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Fran Healy and invited them to join the band. This line-up change also helped transform the band from Glass Onion to Travis. Horseshoe Bar was Travis’ rehearsal and recording site until they signed to a major record label. In 1996, Travis released their first single, “U16 Girls.†Noel Gallagher was a huge fan of this single and invited Travis on tour with his band, Oasis. By 2007, Oasis released their debut album, Good Feeling. Their most recent album, Where You Started, was released in 2013. The band’s name derives from the character, Travis Henderson from the film, Paris, Texas.
