American punk rock band, Rancid, got its start in 1991. Members are Tim Armstrong, Matt Freeman, Lars Frederiksen, and Branden Steineckert. Like Green Day, they are believed to have made punk rock popular in the mid-90’s with their populist radical politics, interest in DIY ethics, and rejection of punk elitism. They have seven albums, including their self=titled debut, with an eighth coming out in 2012.
They released their first album in 1993, while performing at bars around Berkeley, CA. they toured with The Offspring in 1994, causing much hype for their second album, Let’s Go. Their third album, …And Out Come the Wolves was even more successful, leading to an appearance on an episode of Saturday Night Live.
The band toured for two years before settling down to record their fourth album, Life Won’t Wait. Between then and 2003, they released two more albums, including Indestructible, which featured their biggest single ever, “Fall Back Down.†After touring for the album, they took a hiatus and didn’t reform until 2006. They continued to tour as they released a DVD of music videos, an album on Myspace, and a deluxe version of their album.
In 2009, they went on tour with Let the Dominoes Fall, and were joined with Rise Against, Riverboat Gamblers, and Billy Talent. They toured with Blink-182 in 2011 before announcing plans for a new album and world tour for their 20th Anniversary as a band. They will be a headliner at Groezrock in Belgium, a huge punk festival, and will perform at select cities in the U.S. and Europe.
