Pink Martini Information
Splendor in the Grass (2009), the latest from Pink Martini, features songs in five different languages- English, Spanish, Italian, French and Neapolitan, guests from NPR and Sesame Street, and went platinum in Greece (ironically not one of its languages). Needless to say, inspiration seeps into the works of Pink Martini from just about anything and everything- but mostly music from all cultures and political topics. Thomas M. Lauderdale, founder of the group, originally put the mini-orchestra together to provide entertainment as political function after having been disappointed by the acts he came across at such events. With the idea of forming a group that could interest a person regardless of their party or personal beliefs, Pink Martini was born. The group’s lead vocalist, China Forbes, is a Cambridge native and Harvard alumnae, who has established a bit of a solo career. Together the 12-piece has manufactured a cross-over genre for a studious and educational audience. Pink Martini will be performing at the Orpheum Theater in Boston on November 3rd as part of what is so far just a seven-date fall tour.
