Alternative rock band Phoenix has worked its way up the totem pole, beginning with appearances in under the radar flicks like Lost in Translation (2003) before gaining widespread notoriety with their fourth studio album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (2009). Tracks from Phoenix’s latest album are just about everywhere now, from car commercials to trailers for Spike Jonz’s Where the Wild Things Are to this year’s Love Actually-meets-February 14th, Valentine’s Day. Featuring the hits “1901†and “Liztomaniaâ€, the album is a collection of rock-meets-pop that confirms the band’s mainstream approach. Phoenix then won the Grammy for this year’s Best Alternative Music Album and performed for massive audiences at 2010’s Coachella, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza festivals as a co-headlining band. Phoenix will be making their return to Boston after playing 2009’s WFNX holiday festival alongside Spoon and Passion Pit at the Orpheum for a headlining performance at Boston University’s Agganis Arena on October 18th.
