The annual heavy metal festival Ozzfest is back after a year off with a fresh, new lineup playing amongst fan favorites, Ozzy Osbourne himself and Motley Crue. Ozzfest was started by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne when Lollapalooza refused to let Osbourne join their tour. Though beginning as a one-time thing, the tour was well-received and became a yearly occurrence. Originally held in Arizona and California, the festival now tours the United States, with six different dates and locations scheduled for Ozzyfest 2010.
In 2006, there were negative reports on the festival after an incident with Iron Maiden being harassed mid-performance. The following year, tickets for Ozzyfest were completely free of charge. While the festival still took place in 2008, there was only one date due to Ozzy Osbourne playing in another conflicting touring festival.
This year’s lineup includes the ever present Ozzy Osbourne as a headliner alongside Motley Crue, Rob Halford, DevilDriver and Nonpoint on the main stage. Playing on the second stage is Black Label Society, Drowning Pool, Kingdom of Sorrow, Goatwhore, Skeletonwitch, Saviors and Kataklysm. With only six touring dates for the third week of August, Ozzfest will be making its way to Mansfield’s Comcast Center August 24th for a full day of heavy metal.
