One Republic Information
As one of the biggest bands to find popularity by way of MySpace, OneRepublic approached the whole rock band thing backwards, with a hit song before they ever had an album. An rather than being on a label alongside fellow rock bands, OneRepublic was signed by Mosley Music Group Imprint, headed by R&B-producing sensation Timbaland. Timbaland discovered and scoped out Ryan Tedder, frontman of OneRepublic, after seeing the 21-year-old appear on an MTV show, taking him under his wing. While Tedder found learning to write hits incredible, he couldn’t help but think of performing the songs himself, preferably with the support of a band.
While Ryan Tedder, known as Alias in the producing world, has written and produced songs for acts throughout the entire industry spectrum, ranging from Leona Lewis to Paul Oakenfold to Chris Cornell, he was also busy at work with his own band’s debut album Dreaming Out Loud (2008). “Apologize†and “Stop and Stare†made it to the radio before the album ever made it to stores, which was released in March. Despite their label’s hip-hop tendencies, the band remained true to their rock roots and continued to do so on Waking Up (2009). Last week OneRepublic appeared on the Today Show’s Summer Concert Series in promotion of their upcoming headlining world tour, which is coming to Boston’s House of Blues on July 8th.
