Motley Crue Information
American heavy metal band, Motley Crue, is composed of Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, Tommy Lee, and Vince Neil. Known for leading wild lifestyles, the band lives up to their name as members have battled alcoholism and drug dependency over the years. With nine studio albums and two live albums, the band has been nominated for four American Music Awards with one win, three Grammy Awards, and an MTV Music Video Award. They received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006.
Motley Crue got its start in 1981and released their first single, “Stick to Your Guns/Toast of the Town.†They released their debut album, Too Fast for Love, in 1981 and went on tour. Their first tour in 1982 was full of controversy as the band was arrested, but it was done as a publicity stunt. There was also a bomb threat made against them at one of their shows, but that too ended up being for publicity.
They started to gain success in the U.S. with the help of MTV. Three of there albums were best-selling: 1983’s Shout at the Devil, 1985’s Theatre of Pain, and 1987’s Girls, Girls, Girls. But backstage, their antics were as crazy as ever. The 90’s and early 2000’s was difficult for the band. They llost member Vince Neil in 1992, but he rejoined in 1997. Motely Crue left Elektra Records in 1998 to set up their own label, Motley Records. In 1999, Lee left the group to focus on solo projects and was replaced by Randy Castillo. Castillo passed away in 2002, so Hole drummer Samantha Maloney filled in on tour.
Up until 2003, the band split up and worked on other projects. In 2004, it was announced that a reunion tour was in the works with all of the original members. They co-headlined a tour with Aerosmith in 2006, the Route of All Evil tour. In 2008, they released their latest album, Saints of Los Angeles. The album sold well and the band continued to make various performances around the world.
With a total of 31 tours since 1981, they went on a summer 2011 tour with Poison for Motley Crue’s 30th Anniversary and Posion’s 25th. In March 2012, they announced a tour with legendary rock band, KISS. The tour will kick off in Bristow, VA on July 20. They come to Mansfield’s Comcast Center September 16.
