Moe, often written as moe., is an American jam band that was cultivated by the college party scene out of the University at Buffalo in 1989. Moe is made up of five band members, Rob Derhak (bass, Vocals), Al Schnier (guitar, Vocals, keyboard), Chuck Garvey (guitar, Vocals), Vinnie Amico (drums), and Jim Loughlin (percussion). Fatboy (1992), the band's first record, established the band as a favorite of the ‘90s jam band, improvisational-rock scene that grew rapidly with the cult followings of Phish and Widespread Panic as well, the generational offspring of the Grateful Dead and their Deadheads. Moe toured with the ‘97 Furthur Festival, appeared at Woodstock '99, opened for The Allman Brothers and The Who and performed at Radio City Music Hall on New Year's Eve 2006 and 2007.
With 14 studio albums, 8 live albums, and their first compilation disc Smash Hits Volume One which was released earlier this year. The anthology of work spans from the last 20 years of moe.'s music, plucking out the top 14 tracks from their catalog. Rather than compile the original studio tracks, though, Moe returned to the studio to play their tunes in one sitting so that all of the songs would have the same consistency and sound quality. Moe will be the life of the party this New Year’s Eve when they play two consecutive shows at the House of Blues on December 30th and 31st.
