They have five studio albums, one live album, two compilation albums, and two video albums. Their singles, “Divinations,” “Oblivion,” and “Just Got Paid,” have all charted on the U.S. Hot Singles Sales chart at #14, #16, and #13 respectively. The band has been nominated for two Grammy Awards as well as for two Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, one for which they won for Best Shredder in 2007, and the second that has not yet been announced for Best Drummer in 2012.

Mastodon signed with Relapse Records in 2001 and released their debut album, Remission, in 2002. They followed up with their second album, Leviathan, in 2004. Kerrang! and Terrorizer both named it album of the year and National Public Radio called it “one of the most important recordings of the decade.”

They released Blood Mountains in 2006 and went on tour to support it with Tool. That year, they performed on the Conan O’Brien Show and had the single, “Colony of Birchmen,” on the video games Rock Band 2 and Saints Row 2. Mastodon performed at a number of festivals including Hove Festival, Pitchfork Music Festival, and Bonnaroo Music Festival and opened for Metallica in 2007 and 2008. Their singles were featured on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Madden NFL 10 and Saints Row: The Third. The band also sang the opening song for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie.

In 2009 and 2010, they continued to perform, before releasing their fifth album, The Hunter in 2011. Metal Hammer, Classic Rock, and Rock Sound all named it Album of the Year. While speculation persists about a new album, the band will tour in continued support for The Hunter. They are going on tour with Opeth, which kicks off April 4 in Portland, ME and will continue on across the U.S.
