Macy Gray Information
Macy Gray is an American soul and R&B singer/song-writer, record producer, and actress from Ohio. She has two Brit Awards, one Grammy Award, and one MTV Video Music Award. Gray has released five studio albums, one live album, and one compilation album. In addition, she has been featured in a number of television and film roles. Known for her deep, raspy voice, she has been compared to the likes of Billy Holiday and Betty Davis.
She released her debut album, On How Life is, in 1999 to immediate success. Her first single, “Do Something†did well, but it was her second single, “I Try,†that made her a star. Her next two albums, 2001’s The Id and 2003’s “The Trouble With Being Myself†did not reach the level of success of her debut album.
After a two-year hiatus, Gray released her fourth album, Big, in 2007. She followed it up with 2010’s The Sellout. She signed with 429 Records in 2011 and her new album, Covered, was released on March 26, 2012.
Gray’s television appearances include spots on Ally McBeal, That’s So Raven, and as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars in 2009. Her filmography includes roles in Training Day, Spiderman, Scary Movie 3, Domino, and For Colored Girls.
With the release of Covered, Gray is set to perform concerts for promotion of the new album.
