After getting public attention for her background vocals in Flo Rida’s “Right Roundâ€, Kesha’s career has really taken off in the past year, breaking digital sales records for her first debut single “Tik Tokâ€. Kesha reportedly lived an impoverished childhood and was raised by her financially deprived singer mom, Pebe Sebert. Kesha gave herself a fame-thirty image by breaking in Prince’s house in give him a demo tape and throwing up in Paris Hilton’s closet. These stunts eventually worked in Kesha’s favorite, as she signed with RCA, made a live debut at Lollapalooza and released her 2010 album Animal.
The record’s first single “Tik Tok†broke radio play records as the longest running number one hit song by a female artist since Debby Boone’s 1977 “You Light Up My Lifeâ€. This hit was followed up by “Blah Blah Blah†and the album’s infectious opening track “Your Love is My Drugâ€. The album has received mixed reviews for being carefree, juvenile and giving her a rebellious, party girl image. Her songs bring an edgy mix into the pop scene while her storytelling lyrics are inspired by her Nashville roots. Kesha will be opening for Rihanna’s “Last Girl on Earth†Tour at the Comcast Center on August 8th and is also performing as part of Lilith Fair’s all-female lineup.
