Jordin Sparks Information
Jordin Sparks rose to fame after she became the youngest contestant to ever win American Idol in 2007 at seventeen-years-old. She followed up this win with a self-titled album that went platinum and sold over 2 million copies worldwide. As a pop and R& B singer-songwriter, Sparks referred to her first album as “Top 40, radio-friendly, uplifting stuff mixing the pop rock sound of Kelly Clarkson with the R&B edge of Beyonce". The single “Tattoo†from this album made it to the Top Ten, followed by duet with Chris Brown “No Air†and “One Step at a Timeâ€. “No Air†also became the most purchased download of any song released by an American Idol winner to date.
Jordin Sparks opened for Alicia Keys on her 2008 As I Am tour, later co-headlined her own tour alongside Jesse McCartney and even performed at the Inaugural Ball for President Obama. She also won an American Music Award for Favorite Artist in the Adult Contemporary Category. Sparks’ latest album, titled Battlefield, was released in July 2009, and she considers the album to be more R&B and dance influenced, Beyonce meets Rihanna. The album’s title track made it to the Top ten after she performed it on the American Idol results show.
The Battlefield Tour is Jordin Sparks’ first ever solo headlining tour in promotion of her latest album, which she will follow up by performing as the lead female role in “In the Heights†on Broadway. The tour began at the start of May and will stretch through the summer to mid August.
