John Prine Information
John Prine is an American country and folk singer from Illinois who has been singing, writing and performing for over 30 years. Prineâ€™s first album was released in 1971 simply titled â€œJohn Prineâ€. Fellow singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson discovered him while playing around the Chicago folk scene. This album is now know for classic Prine songs such as, â€œIllegal Smileâ€, â€œAngel from Montgomeryâ€ and â€œParadiseâ€. Since then Prine has had continued success as a singer-songwriter and has gone on to release numerous albums and formed his own label, â€œOh Boy Recordsâ€. His songs are covered by many artists those most notably being The Highwaymen, My Morning Jacket and Justin Townes Earle.
He received a Grammy for his 1991 album â€œThe Missing Yearsâ€ and has become decorated with a Lifetime Achievement Award for songwriting from BBC Radio 2 as well as being inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. John Prine continues to write and release music and is currently on tour.
