Il Volo Information

Il Volo, in English The Flight, is an Italian teenage operatic pop band who got their start in 2009. Members include tenors Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and baritone Gianluca Ginoble. Each of the members began their musical interests early on. They met in 2009 on the second season of the Italian singing competition, Ti Lascio Una Canzone. Ginoble ended up winning, but at one point during the run of the show, the threesome performed a song together. When it ended, they decided to continue performing together and settled on the name Il Volo.

2010 was where the trio started to take off as they were part of the song, “We Are The World 25 For Haiti,” for charity, performed at the Sanremo Festival, as well as for Queen Rania of Jordan.

After signing with Geffen, they released a debut, self-titled album in 2010. The album was recorded in England and released in English, but a Spanish version dropped in 2011. The English version reached #10 on the Billboard 200 chart and #1 on the US Classical chart. The Spanish version was #6 on the Mexican chart and #1 on the US Latin Pop chart.

Il Volo has also released a live album, Il Volo…Takes Flight: Live From The Detroit Opera House” in February 2012. The album reached #85 on the US Billboard 200, but #1 on the US Classical chart.

In 20ll, the trio performed on The Talk, American Idol, the MDA Labor Day Telethon and made an appearance on Entourage. They were nominated for two Latin Grammy Awards that year and released a Christmas EP, for which they sang one of the singles on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Il Volo is currently on a South American tour that will run through May. In August, they will kick off a North American tour on August 12 in Minneapolis. It will continue on throughout the fall, heading across the US and Canada.
