Marshall Mathers, known as his rapping stage name Eminem, quickly gained popularity as well as a Grammy award in 1999 with the release of The Slim Shady LP. His follow up, The Marshall Mathers EP became the fastest-selling solo album in history. He won three consecutive Grammys for his rap albums, totaling 11 career Grammys. Eminem was ranked by Rolling Stone #82 on their list of 100 Greatest Artists of All-Time, named by Vibe Magazine as the Best Rapper Ever, named the Best Artist of the Decade by Billboard magazine and has had 8 no. 1 albums on the Billboard 200. Having sold more than 80 million albums worldwide to date, Eminem was the best selling artist of the decade and one of the best-selling music artists in the world.
With a total of seven full-length studio albums, four compilations, three collaborations and two EPs racked up throughout his career, Eminem put out his most recent album Recovery (2010) last week, with the claim of the record being more emotionally driven rather than just a rap record like 2007’s Relapse. Recovery was well received, EW saying “Eminem's lyrical craftsmanship is second to none on the new album.†As one of the most powerful rap figures the genre has ever seen, Eminem will be teaming up with hip-hop king Jay-Z for two shows only, at Commercial Park in Detroit and Yankee Stadium in Bronx, NY in September.
