Cat Power Information
Cat Power, a.k.a. Chan Marshall, has one of the most original and soulful female voices in music today. She put out her first album in 1995 when she also released the album What Would the Community Think. A collection of stripped down songs focusing on her sultry voice and moody confessional lyrics. She released another album in 1998, Moon Pix, which would be her last album of original material until 2003’s You Are Free, which featured some famous friends guesting including Eddie Vedder and Dave Grohl.
After taking a break from music Marshall came back with one of her best albums to date, 2006’s The Greatest, full of original material, emotional lyrics and an incredible backing band including Al Green’s original guitar player, Teenie Hodges. The album received critical praise and was able to bring Cat Power back into the spotlight and give her the recognition she deserved as a singer. What critics also noticed was that now her stage presence was more professional, with her delivering properly and bringing high energy to her shows.
In 2008 she released Jukebox, a collection of covers recorded with a new band she put together called The Dirty Delta Blues Band. She is currently going on tour in support of her new album full of original material, Sun.
