Billy Elliot Information
Billy Elliot the Musical is the spectacular show with the heart, humor and passion to be named Broadway's Tony-winning Best Musical and Time Magazine's "Best Musical of the Decade!" Set in a small town, the story follows little Billy as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, discovering a surprising talent that inspires his family and his whole community, and changes his life forever.
Based on the international smash-hit film, Billy Elliot is brought to life by a phenomenal cast and Tony Award-winning creative team – director Stephen Daldry, choreographer Peter Darling and writer Lee Hall – along with music legend Elton John, who has written what the New York Post calls "his best score yet!"
Billy Elliot the Musical tells the story of a young boy from a coal mining town in England who transcends class and circumstance to become a ballet star. Even though his father wants him to learn to box, Billy secretly takes dance lessons from Mrs. Wilkinson. She then helps him audition for The Royal Ballet School. In the end, Billy’s father finally accepts his son’s decision and Billy lives his dream.
It has been more than three years since “Billy Elliot†first sent critics and audiences into a mass praise in London, where it continues to play. Billy Elliot will be playing from now until the end of January 2011 at the Imperial Theater on Broadway in New York City.
