Belle and Sebastian Information
Belle and Sebastian, an indie pop band from Glasgow, Scotland, have been ruling the alternative scene since 1996 with critically acclaimed albums and a steady following without mainstream popularity. Recording their first album through a college record label, the band-project became a full-time commitment for members Stuart Murdoch singer-songwriter, Stuart David on bass, Stevie Jackson on guitar, Isobel Campbell on cello and vocals, Chris Geddes on keys, Sarah Martin on vocals and Richard Colburn on drums.
The band’s second album, If You’re Feeling Sinister is continually among Top 100 album lists and is considered a masterpiece. 1998’s The Boy with the Arab Strap also received raving reviews from listeners and critics alike. From there the band was featured in the media with a spot in the 2000 film High Fidelity and 2007’s Juno. In 2002, Isobel Campbell left the band mid-tour and has since been working solo. Belle & Sebastian has released two studio albums for their latest record company, Rough Trade (Dear Catastrophe Waitress in 2003 and The Life Pursuit in 2006). Each album garnered more mainstream success in the UK charts than the last.
The band announced recently that they are in the final stages of recording an album, to be completed during a world tour from now to the beginning of 2011. Belle & Sebastian’s first American tour date is September 30th in New York, with a Boston performance scheduled for October 15th at the Wang Theater.
