Barbra Streisand Information
Whether you love her or hate her, you can't argue that Barbra Streisand is one of the most popular and successful performers of our time. Although initially successful as a singer and actress, Streisand eventually found success in composing, directing and producing. Her achievements include: 11 Golden Globe Awards, 6 Emmys, 2 Oscars, 10 Grammys, 1 Tony Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute.
Barbra, a native of Brooklyn, NY, made her start in the big city with off-off Broadway productions and performances at several Greenwich Village gay bars in 1960. Streisand's big break came in 1962 in the Broadway production of I Can Get it For You Wholesale. This role led to her first record contract with Columbia Records later that year. Her first album landed her two Grammy awards in 1963.
Barbra's critically acclaimed success continued throughout the 60's and 70's with movies such as Hello Dolly, The Way We Were, Funny Lady and Yentl. Her most recent movie role was alongside Ben Stiller, Robert Deniro and Dustin Hoffman in 2004's Meet the Fockers. Since Barbra's performing has slowed a bit in recent years, fans were shocked and excited to hear about Streisand's 2006 tour. The tour is scheduled to hit several cities including, New York, Boston, L.A. and Chicago.
