The Atlanta Thrashers are one of the most recent NHL expansion teams. They joined the league in 1997. Although the Thrashers have yet to make the playoffs in prior seasons they made it to the post-season in 2007, but were swept in the Conference quarterfinals by the New York Rangers.
The 2008 Thrashers followed their older, less successful trend, finishing 4th in the Southeast division with only 34 wins to their name. Last season seemed no different for Atlanta, as they struggled to fight closer to the top and concluded the year at 35 wins and 41 losses. They failed to make the playoffs again in the 2010-11 season.
In 2011 the team was relocated to Winnipeg and renamed the Winnipeg Jets. Season tickets opened to the general public on June 4 and sold out in just 17 minutes. In July 2011, tickets for the home opener in October versus the Montreal Canadiens were listed for an average selling price of $713. The Jets inherited the Trashers' position for the 2011-2012 season in the Southeast Division. The season led to an overall record of 37-35 and the team did not qualify for the playoffs. They will stay in the southeast Division for at least the 2012-2013 NHL season.
