Vancouver Canucks information, Vancouver Canucks' GM Dave Nonis felt that his team needed some big changes after being considered Stanley Cup contenders to falling three points shy of a playoff position. Their biggest change came in the form of top goaltender Roberto Luongo. The acquisition of Luongo, however, saw Vancouver sending star forward Todd Bertuzzi, backup goalie Alex Auld, and defenseman Bryan Allen to the Florida Panthers. Last year's lackluster offense has also been given a different look. Matt Cooke will be replacing Bertuzzi this season on the top line and newcomer Jan Bulis will hopefully try and make up for the loss of Anson Carter on Vancouver's second unit. Looking to improve on last year will be Markus Naslund (who scored 32G but posted a minus 19 rating) and Brendan Morrison (19G-37A). Once again Daniel and Henrik Sedin will look to do all they can to lighten the load off of the Canucks' top line. While nearly Vancouver's entire defense unit is elsewhere this season, the Canucks can still count on solid two-way play from Mattias Ohlund and Sami Salo. Willie Mitchell and Kevin Bieksa will provide Luongo with some much-appreciated physical play in their own end. The Canucks certainly have the building blocks to return to playoff form. This is good news for fans who will attend games inside GM Place.
