Utah Jazz information, The Utah Jazz began as the New Orleans Jazz in 1974, and then struggled through a decade at the bottom before emerging as perennial contenders in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They have never won an NBA championship, but they have won two conference titles and have won their division eight times. Utah reached the playoffs in 2007 and 2008 but failed to capitalize in the later rounds.
The Jazz completed the 2009 regular season with a 48-34 record and lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs. They are led by Carlos Boozer, Andrei Kirilenko, and Deron Williams. This off season Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur, and Kyle Korver all had written clauses for the final year of their contracts saying they can opt out and seek bigger deals if they so choose.
All three of them decided to opt-in and serve the final year of their contracts in Utah. Even though Boozer decided not to opt-out, he spoke up to be traded after he learned that Utah was already thinking about trading him away to stay under the luxury tax. If they keep him along with power forward Paul Millsap, it is likely that the Jazz will be over the luxury tax for the first time in franchise history.
