Toronto Blue Jays Information

The Blue Jays organization was founded in Toronto in 1977. They are the first team to win a World Series in Canada, the first team from Canada to appear in the World Series, and the fastest American League expansion franchise to win a World Series. The Fall Classic victory came in their 16th season in 1992 when they defeated the Atlanta Braves in six games. The Jays found themselves back in the playoffs in '93 and went on to gain their second straight title after a hard fought series against the Philadelphia Phillies. All home games are played at Rogers Centre (formerly known as the SkyDome).

The Blue Jays finished their 2009 regular season at 75-87, fourth in the division. In 2010, they welcomed new GM Alex Anthopoulos and traded all-star pitcher Roy Halladay. They came in fourth once again in the division, but added ten wins to their record, going 85-77.

In 2011, the Blue Jays signed a new manager, John Farrell, but they also traded away Vernon Wells. After receiving Mike Napoli from the Angels for Wells, the Blue Jays quickly transferred Napoli to the Rangers for reliever Frank Francisco. The team had a lot of promise now with all-star Jose Bautista, who they signed for a five year extension, but continued to struggle in the tough AL East.

Once again coming in fourth place, the Blue Jays finished at 81-81. For the upcoming 2012 season, the Blue Jays hope to continue to grind and fight for a place a top the AL East.
