The Pretenders information, American born, British bred rock band The Pretenders were one of the most influential rock bands of the late 70's/early 80's. 1979 singles "Stop Your Sobbing" and "Brass in Pocket" quickly skyrocketed the back to stardom. The Pretenders early work was known for its raw performances, shifting tempos, and experimental nature.

EP "Extended Play" and sophomore album "Pretenders II" featured "Message of Love" and music video hit "Day After Day", gaining the band even more critical acclaim and fans.

Despite losing two of their original band members to drug overdoses, The Pretenders persevered. A newly energized band would release the emotionally and politically charged "Back on the Chain Gang" and "Middle of the Road" while working with causes such as Live Aid. The Pretenders latest album, "Break up the Concrete" is more of a country-rock affair, replacing many of the searing guitar work of their earlier albums with lap-steel guitar. The Pretenders will be going out on tour from January to March of 2009 in support of "Concrete", playing new songs and "countrified" versions of their classics.
