Tears for Fears Information

Tears for Fears, the English pop rock band formed in the early 1980s by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, was founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate. They were initially associated with the New Wave synthesizer bands of the early 1980s, influenced heavily by the works of Brian Eno and the Talking Heads. Later they branched out into mainstream rock and pop, which led to international chart success. The third single from their debut, The Hurting, called “Mad World” was what garnered an international audience and the follow-up, Songs of the Big Chair, secured Tears for Fears into the pop world. “Shout” and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” became international super hits in no time. Over their career the band has sold more than 22 million albums worldwide (including over 8 million in the United States alone).

While Orzabal and Smith had an acrimonious falling out and parted company in 1991 due to production differences that was followed up by competitive solo albums, the friends reunited in 2000 and put together the album Everybody loves a Happy Ending. With eight studio albums and one compilation, Tears for Fears were a prominent ‘80s and ‘90s band. They will be performing at the House of Blues in Boston on August 16th.
