Sister Act Information

Sister Act opened in London’s West End in 2009 and made its Broadway debut on April 20, 2011. It was produced by Stage Entertainment, Whoopi Goldberg, and Michael Reno, written by Cherie Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, music by Alan Menkin, and lyrics from Glenn Slater. Nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards and five Tony Awards, the show is still playing at the Broadway Theatre in NYC, has performances running in Hamburg and Milan, and is preparing for a North American tour.

The protagonist Deloris van Cartier witnesses her boyfriend murdering someone and is forced to go into the witness protection program to an unlikely destination: a convent. Deloris takes over the convent choir and tries to make it a success, all while avoiding the dangers of what’s waiting for her on the outside and struggling to try to adjust to life as a nun. The musical comedy features song and dance numbers like “Take Me To Heaven,” “Raise Your Voice,” and “Sister Act.”

The North American tour will kick off in Fall 2012 in Toronto and will continue on throughout Canada and cities across the U.S., including to Boston's Opera House January 22-February 3, 2013.
