The Seattle Seahawks are currently members of the NFC West division, as they were when they first entered the league in 1976. After the first season, the Seahawks switched places with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and joined the AFC West. They would remain in the AFC for 26 years until 2002 when the NFL realigned the divisions due to the increasing number of franchises. The Seahawks were once again added to the NFC West, making them the only team in NFL history to switch conferences twice.
In their 30 year history, the Seahawks have made the playoffs seven times and have advanced to the Super Bowl only once. That appearance was in Super Bowl XL when they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Seattle has won the both the AFC and NFC West divisions twice. The Seahawks have had some Hall of Fame players on their roster over the years that include Carl Eller, Franco Harris, Steve Largent, Warren Moon, and Jerry Rice. Of those players, Steve Largent is the most recognized by the Seahawk faithful as he played his entire career (aside from three preseason games) in Seattle. He was a pro-bowler seven times and is a member of the 1980's All-Decade Team (also a former member of the House of Representatives).
The Seahawk fans are some of the most devoted and recognized in the NFL, nick-named "The Twelfth Man." This name came about because of the noise level the fans are able to create in the stadium when the opposition has the ball. The team has even retired the number 12, in dedication to the fans. The 2008 Seahawks failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2003. They finished the regular season with a 4-12 record, landing them at 3rd place in the NFC West division. 2009 featured a 5-11 record to land them the #3 spot in the NFC West behind the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers.
The 2010 season saw the Seahawks reach the playoffs with a 7-9 record. They beat the Saints in the first round, but lost to the Bears in the Divisional round. In 2011, the Seahawks had the same record, but the 49ers and Cardinals improved in the division and they placed third for the year.
The Seahawks will look to improve in 2012 and try to make the playoffs once again.
