Information
The Giants were established in New York in 1883. They moved to San Francisco in 1958 the same year the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles. They have five World Series titles in their history and 20 NL Pennants.
Lately the Giants have been struggling to reach the playoffs, finishing under.500 for the past two seasons. Despite a losing season in 2007, Barry Bonds made history as he broke the all time home run record set by the legendary Hank Aaron. Bonds now holds the record with 762 career home runs.
2008 marked the first season since 1993 that the Giants played without Bonds on the roster. San Francisco signed outfielder Aaron Rowand to a 5-year contract for $60 million. To go along with Rowand's talents, they discovered pitcher Tim Lincecum, who represented the Giants in the 2008 MLB All Star Game at Yankee Stadium. Lincecum also went on to win the 2008 Cy Young Award. The Giants will look to Rowand and Lincecum to lead the club along with Barry Zito and Edgar Renteria. Along with these four they will have to rely on young talent to step up going into 2009 to be able to make a run at the division.
