The Owls are the 16 varsity athletic teams representing Rice University, who compete in the NCAA Division 1 Conference USA. They were formerly members of the Southwest Conference until its breakup in 1996. Primary playing fields include Rice Stadium, Tudor Fieldhouse, and Reckling Park.

Rice is best known for its baseball program. The team has won its conference for the past twelve straight seasons. They took home the College World Series in 2003 and finished third in the National tournament in both 2006 and 2007. They have made six total trips to the CWS.
