Pittsburgh entered the NFL as an expansion team in 1933. They were first named the Pirates, but were renamed the Steelers in 1941 after, of course, the city's well-known steel industry. Throughout the years the Steelers have had many Hall of Fame players that are recognizable only in their black and gold uniforms. For example, "Mean" Joe Green, Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, and Franco Harris.
Franco Harris was responsible for a play that was voted by NFL Films as the greatest play of all-time, nicknamed the "Immaculate Reception." In a game against the Oakland Raiders in 1972, the Steelers were faced with a 4th down on their own 40 yard line with a few seconds on the clock. Terry Bradshaw threw up a pass that was deflected off two players and was scooped up at the last second by Harris before running it all the way for a touchdown.
The Steelers have had their fair share of success in the past few years, winning two Super Bowls in 2005 and 2008 against the Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Cardinals. Both campaigns were led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who was thrown into the starting spot in 2004. 'Big Ben' has been one of the most successful young quarterbacks to date, winning his first Super Bowl at the age of 23. Pittsburg is led by Troy Polamalu at strong safety with Casey Hampton at defensive tackle. Running behind Roethlisberger on offense will be Willie Parker. Pittsburg will be looking to do more damage in the playoffs this season with more confidence than ever heading into 2009-2010. Don't miss the opportunity to see the current world champions in action!
After somewhat of a shaky start to the 2009 regular season, the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers are officially back as one of the NFL’s top contenders. They better proved themselves Monday night after handling the Denver Broncos 28-10 at Mile High Stadium.Safety Tyrone Carter in replace of Ryan Clark stepped up and took one back [...]
San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson was seen at practice for the first time on Wednesday since spraining his right ankle in week 1. After missing two games straight for the first time in his NFL career, Tomlinson is making it a goal to be ready for their next game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday [...]
Jeff Reed was able to find the uprights and kick it right through to seal the 13-10 Pittsburgh Steelers win over the Tennessee Titans with 4:32 OT minutes passed at Heinz Field. The NFL opening match up served as quite the defensive battle, knowing both teams were held to zero points in the first and [...]
