Philadelphia Eagles information, One of the most tortured teams in NFL history, in 75 years of existence, the Philadelphia Eagles have never been able to capture a Super Bowl championship. The opportunities have been there, but the franchise has just not been able to capitalize. From 2001-2004, the Eagles played in the NFC Championship game and in 2004 they played in Super Bowl XXXIX only to lose to the New England Patriots 24-21. After disastrous seasons in 2005 and 2006, the Eagles were only able to put out a .500 record in 2007; failing to qualify for the playoffs for their third straight season.
In 2008 they welcomed signed free-agent CB Asante Samuel who inked a 6-year deal on the first day of free agency. Things were looking up in Philadelphia, as they earned a spot in the playoffs with a 9-6 record; knocking off the defending champion New York Giants in the divisional playoffs 23-11. They made it back to the NFC Championship, where they eventually lost to the Arizona Cardinals 32-25.
Behind the veteran leadership of QB Donovan McNabb who is about to enter his 11th NFL season, the Eagles hope to get back into the NFC playoff picture. McNabb's two favorite targets at the WR position this season will again be Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown. Head Coach Andy Reid hopes that his team has what it takes to compete in the very competitive NFC East. He believes that their combination of experience on offensive and youth on defense will make for an exciting overall season in Philadelphia regardless.
To add to the excitement the Eagles signed former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. His contract states that the first year of the deal will be for $1.6 million with an option heading into the second year for $5.2 million. Before convicted in August of 2007, Vick at one point was the highest paid player in the NFL. After serving time in jail, his suspension was rightfully lifted by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Reid is looking forward to having Vick join training camp. He and McNabb have assured that there will be no QB controversy. "I pretty much lobbied to get him here," McNabb said. "I believe in second chances and what better place to get a second chance than here with this group of guys. He’s no threat to me, not for Kolb. We had the opportunity to add another weapon to our offense."
Quarterback Donovan McNabb threw for his 200th touchdown pass and surpassed the 30,000 yard mark as the Philadelphia Eagles went on to defeat the Washington Redskins 27-17 Monday night. The win for Philly was a definite step in the right direction after being stunned last week against the Oakland Raiders.DeSean Jackson racked up two TD’s [...]
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has recently stated that Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick will be eligible to play by the third week of the 2009 NFL regular season. “Hopefully we can have a success story here, which would be good for society in general,” said Goodell. “He’s realistic about the challenges ahead, and anxious to [...]
Quarterback/utility specialist Michael Vick made his debut last night in a Philadelphia Eagles uniform as they went on to barely edge out the Jacksonville Jaguars 33-32. In the short period of time he played he completed all four of his attempted short passes for nineteen yards. The half empty Stadium in Philadelphia shared minimal protests and [...]
