Philadelphia 76ers Information

The 76ers were founded in 1939 and joined the NBA ten years later in 1949. Since their inception, the 76ers have won three Championships, but none since the 1982-83 season. Behind the strength of former 76ers star Allen Iverson, they advanced to the NBA Finals in 2001, but lost in five games to the Lakers.

After a streak of mediocre seasons, the Sixers were in search of a fresh start and finally let go of their longtime franchise player to the Detroit Pistons. With the new-found leadership of Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand, Philadelphia advanced to the first round of the 2009 NBA playoffs with a 41-41 record. They pulled-off two victories from game-winning shots by Iguodala and Thaddeus Young in games 1 and 3, but ended up losing the series in six games.

Philadelphia brought Iverson back into the mix for a short stint in 2010. The All-Star guard was welcomed with open arms and enjoyed his time there, but was forced to leave mid-season with family obligations. The squad finished with 26 wins to rank behind the Celtics, Raptors and Knicks in the Atlantic Division.

In the 2010-11 season, once again made the playoffs with a 41-41 record, but lost in the first round to the Miami Heat in 5 games. In the 2011-12 season, the Sixers finished the regular season with a 35-31 record for the year. They earned the eighth seed in the 2012 NBA playoffs and faced the Chicago Bulls and came out victorious. The team then faced the Boston Celtics and were eliminated after a seven-game series. This year they have reworked the roster and are hoping to finish stronger.
