Passion Pit Information

The local electropop band formed in Cambridge in 2007. Members include Michael Angelakos as lead vocals and keyboards, Ian Hultquist on keyboards and guitar, Ayad Al Adhamy on synthesizer and samples, Jeff Apruzzese on bass and synth bass, and Nate Donmoyer on drums. Except for Angelakos, all the members went to Berklee College of Muisc.

They got their name from the Variety Slanguage Dictionary and their first EP, Chunk of Change was released in 2008 after Hultquist met Angelakos at a concert in Boston. They released one single, “Sleepyhead,” whose music video made Pitchfork’s 2008 Top 40 Music Videos list. That year, they were also named WFNX/Boston Phoenix Best New Local Act in 2008.

They signed with Frenchkiss in 2008 and released their first album, Manners, in 2009. Hit songs off the album include “The Reeling,” “Little Secrets,” and “Let Your Love Grow Tall.” Each hit the U.S. Billboard Alternative Songs chart and “Let Your Love Grow Tall” aired on an episode of the TV show Ugly Betty.

Their songs have also been featured on Gossip Girl, Big Love, UEFA Champions League, and So You Think You Can Dance, as well as in the movie Life As We Know It.

In 2009, they performed at the Glastonbury Festival. They toured with Muse in September 2010 for their fall U.S. tour as well as headlined the Campus Consciousness Tour at a number of colleges. They performed at Moogfest in 2011.

Their second album I s set to be released in June 2012 and is scheduled to perform at a number of places around the world, including Toronto’s The “Indies” Awards, Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion, at the Red Rocks in Colorado, SummerSonic in Japan, and the Hollywood Bowl in LA throughout March to September.
