Information

The National League Championship Series has been played annually since 1969 and determines who wins the National League Pennant. The NL champs following the series will go on to battle the American League title winners at the World Series. All National League teams aside from the Milwaukee Brewers have made NLCS appearances. The Brewers as the only exception competed in the American League from 1969-1997 and won the ALCS in 1982.

The NLCS like the ALCS is played in a 2-3-2 format. Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 if necessary are annually played at the higher seeds ball field with all other games hosted by the contenders. In 2008 on their way to win the World Series, the Philadelphia Phillies handled the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.

In 2009 the Dodgers led all NL teams with the best regular season record. They hosted the Phillies for a highly anticipated NLCS rematch. Philadelphia wound up defeating LA again in five games to create their second consecutive World Series appearance.
