New York Rangers Information

The New York Rangers are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. They are one of the oldest teams in the NHL, originating in 1926 as an expansion franchise. They were a part of the group of teams referred to as the "Original Six." The Rangers were the first United States NHL franchise to win a Stanley cup. Since then they have been able to win 3 more championships along with one conference championship, and five division championships. The team is based in the borough of Manhattan, New York. Playing their home games at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers were the first NHL franchise in the United States to win the Stanley Cup. They have won four Stanley Cups in total but have not won one since 1994.

The Rangers have not had any real success since their last Stanley Cup and Conference championship in 1994. They had not even won a Division championship since 1994 until last season. Surprisingly enough, the Rangers finished as the 1st seed in the Eastern Conference in the 2011-12 season. Their regular season record was 51-24. In the first round of the playoffs, the Rangers faced the 8th seed Ottawa Senators and eventually beat them to the Eastern Conference Semi-finals against the Washington Capitals. They went on to win the series 4-3 which sent them to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 1997. They lost to the New Jersey Devils, however, in a 4-2 series.

In the 2012 NHL Entry Draft the Rangers acquired All-Star Rick Nash in exchange for Artem Anisimov, Tim Erixon, Brandon Dubinsky, and a 1st round pick. Hopefully the change in the line-up can spark more of a force coming from the Rangers this upcoming season.
