New York Jets information, The New York Jets were founded in 1960 as a member of the now defunct American Football League. Originally named the Titans, they officially became the Jets in 1963 when the team changed ownership. The team temporarily shares Giant Stadium as their home field with the NY Giants and will be moving to The Meadowlands Stadium in 2010, which is currently under construction. The earliest significant achievement for the Jets came in Super Bowl III, when the Jets upset the heavily favored NFL team, the Colts. The Jets win over the Colts not only solidified their reputation but also the reputation of the AFL as a whole. All of this would have been very difficult without the help of the Jets very charismatic and talented Quarterback, Joe Namath. "Broadway Joe", as he came to be known in New York, guaranteed a victory for the Jets in Super Bowl III. The Jets have yet to return to the Super Bowl since their unlikely victory over the Colts in 1969.
After a disaster season in 2005 when they finished fourth in AFC East with a losing record of 4-12, the Jets hired new head coach, Eric Mangini, in 2006 in hopes that he can lead them to playoff contention once again, which he did only to lose in the first round to the New England Patriots. The two teams made more headlines in the early weeks of the 2007 in a scandal that has since been referred to as “Spygate”. The Jets accused Patriots officials of taping defensive signals from an illegal area on the field and filed an official complaint with the NFL commissioner’s office regarding the issue.
Before the start of the 2008 season the Jets acquired longtime veteran QB Brett Favre. Favre holds NFL records for touchdown passes, completions, passing yards, interceptions, wins, and consecutive starts by a quarterback. He had just came off a red hot season with the Packers, finishing second in voting for MVP and named as the starter for the NFC Pro Bowl team. With Favre taking the snaps the Jets were looking like real competitors early on in the AFC East. In their first eleven games they were 8-3 but then lost their last four of five, falling to third place in the division.
Looking ahead to 2009, Favre decided to stay retired after 17 outstanding seasons in the NFL. The Jets drafted quarterback Mark Sanchez out of USC to compete with veteran Kellen Clemens for the starting role. Reports are saying Sanchez has so far proved himself, and we should expect to see him as the #1 guy for this year. The Jets will most definitely be competing in one of the top NFL divisions, but if they are able to develop quickly they should be able to do some damage.
Quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have moved on from the 4th and 2 controversy despite the media’s unwillingness to let it go. Brady when asked again about last Sunday finally set the record straight with the press. “You still want to talk about the Colts?” he asked one reporter. “We want to [...]
Tom Brady and Randy Moss connected for a crucial touchdown pass in the third quarter as the Patriots defense contained the Miami Dolphins to 17 total points yesterday at Gillette Stadium. New England racked up a score of 27, posting at least three points per quarter. The Brady/Moss connection immediately followed a Dolphins touchdown, when [...]
Earlier today the Cleveland Browns traded away WR Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets for special-teams player Jason Trusnik, WR Chansi Stuckey, and a pair of future draft picks. Edwards has been in the league for five years and will give QB Mark Sanchez the extra option he’s been looking for all season down [...]
