Canadian band The New Pornographers formed in 1997, almost immediately recorded the classic "Letter From An Occupant," and it was on. Their five full-length albums (as well as numerous solo ventures from A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Dan Bejar, Todd Fancey, Kathryn Calder, and not to mention the numerous films directed by Blaine Thurier) received wild critical and public acclaim, and they continue to enjoy bigger audiences with each release. With Mass Romantic (2000), Electric Version (2003), Twin Cinema (2005), Challengers (2007), and Together (2010), the New Pornographers have solidified their sound and title as one of indie rock’s most consistent and endearing bands of the decade.
Blender magazine ranked The New Pornographers' first album, Mass Romantic, the 24th best indie album of all time. Rolling Stone magazine ranked the band's second studio album, Electric Version, #79 in the "100 Best Albums of the Decade”. Their tracks have also received sporadic commercial success with spots in such TV series as Weeds, Chuck, Ugly Betty and Heroes. Needless to say the New Pornographers is a band that has remained under the radar of the rock scene for quite some time and has made college radio and music festival appearances throughout the years.
The new album, entitled Together was released in early May. Recorded throughout Canada and the US, with the help of a small army (including Will Sheff from Okkervil River, Annie Clark of St. Vincent, The Dap Kings, and Zach Condon from Beirut, amongst many others), Together brings a wide array from The New Pornographers assembly of talents. “Crach Years”, the debut track and single is a quintessential track with the harmonious pairing of A.C. Newman and Neko Case’s vocals, the signature sound that complements just about any background sound. The band is currently touring in promotion of their new album and will be appearing at Boston’s House of Blues this Friday, June 18th.
