New Jersey Nets information, The Garden State basketball team started their existence in the American Basketball Association (ABA) playing in a converted armory in Teaneck, New Jersey. They were known then as the Americans and on October 23, 1967 they played their first game against the Pittsburgh Pipers. One year later, the team's location moved to New York's Long Island. Along with the move, their name was changed to the Nets to rhyme with the New York area sports teams; the baseball Mets and the football Jets.

The team currently plays at the Continental Airlines Arena in the New Jersey Meadowlands; however they are in the final stages of planning and if approved, the team will make the move back across the river to Brooklyn for the 2011-2012 season, with help of part owner Jay-Z.

For the past two seasons the Nets have struggled and have been trying to shake things up, getting rid of former leaders Vince Carter, Jason Kidd, and Richard Jefferson. After finishing 34-48 last year, New Jersey is in desperate need of a comeback season. They picked up Rafter Alston, Courtney Lee, and Tony Battie in the Vince Carter trade. The Nets will likely improve for 2010, but not enough to make them definite playoff contenders. The new talent in place could serve as a smart move, but it may take some time for some of these young players to fully develop.
