The Minnesota Vikings entered the NFL as an expansion team in 1961. At times in their history, the Vikings have been ranked among the best teams in the league. They have one NFL Championship to their credit, in 1969. The Vikings were also the first team to play in four Super Bowls. Unfortunately, they also have the distinction of being the only team to lose four Super Bowls. In 2008, they ended the regular season at 10-6, claiming the NFC North Division, but they lost in the first round of post-season play to the Philadelphia Eagles 26-14.
In that off-season, the Vikings front office was highly aware that their only missing piece to achieving that illusive NFL championship was an experienced quarterback. They sought out veteran QB Brett Favre for months before he finally committed to a two-year deal in August of 2009. He then led the Vikings to a 12-4 regular season to recapture the NFC North. After defeating the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional playoffs, Minnesota's remarkable run ended in a 31-28 overtime loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship.
The Vikings came in a last place tie with the Lions with a 6-10 record in 2010. They followed with a worsened record in 2011, falling to 3-13 on the season. The Vikings will be looking to make improvements to their team and their record heading into the 2012 season.
