Maryland Terrapins Information, The Terrapins, also referred to as the 'Terps,' represent the University of Maryland in NCAA Division 1 athletics. They currently field 27 varsity sports and compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference. In their History they have won 35 National Championships; 20 coming from their men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. Their most recent National title came from the women’s field hockey team in 2008. The basketball programs for U of M also fair well in division 1 play, knowing the women’s team went all the way in 2006 and the men in 2002. The programs mascot is Testudo the Turtle, and their official colors are red, white, black, and gold.
