Mary J. Blige was born on January 11th, 1971 and is one of the most famous American born R&B/soul/hip hop singers in the business. Blige has also recorded rap songs and along the way has engaged in several acting roles in television shows. Over her successful career she has sold over 40 million albums worldwide and more then 10 million singles.

Early on in her career, Blige's songs were very personal and gritty voice earning her comparisons to soul singers who came before her, including Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle. However, her artistic development and commercial success over the years have allowed her to be able to have her own influence on a new generation of artists.

She is commonly known as the "Queen of Hip Hop Soul", and has won eight Grammy Awards while receiving 26 nominations for her work.
