Mark Knopfler information, Mark Knopfler was born on August 12th, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland and is a very well known singer/songwriter, guitarist and film score composer. He was best known for his membership in the band Dire Straits as lead guitarist and vocalist. He co-founded the band with his brother in 1977 and had a successful run with the group until they broke up in 1995. Following their breakup, Knopfler continued to produce and record albums as a solo artist under his own name.

In his time as a solo artist, he has collaborated with other musical artists including Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, John Fogerty, and Steely Dan. He's helped produce several artists’ albums such as Bob Dylan, Tina Tuner and Randy Newman. He's also scored the music to a few films including Wag the Dog and The Princess Bride.

Knopfler recently released his 5th solo studio-album titled Kill to Get Crimson. The album was released on September 18, 2007 in the United States. Knopfler is currently on a world tour to support the album; the tour runs through the end of July 2008.
