The Clippers debuted as the Buffalo Braves in 1970, moved to San Diego in 1978, and settled in Los Angeles for the 1984 season. They currently play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference and share the Staples Center with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Clippers have only made the playoffs seven times in their history.
In 2008, the Clippers failed to make the playoffs and didn't place any better in 2009. With the first pick in the NBA draft, they selected former Oklahoma Sooner Blake Griffin. After claiming Griffin, they traded Zach Randolph to Memphis for Quentin Richardson on July 1st. Los Angeles then took Richardson and traded him to the Timberwolves for Sebastian Telfair, Craig Smith, and Mark Madsen. In 2010 the Clippers earned just 29 wins to rank third in the Pacific Division, but the 2011 squad improved their record slightly at 32-50 and still missed out on the playoffs.
This season, the Clippers are doing well and will likely make the playoffs. Just one game behind the first place Lakers, the team has already reached 30 wins in a shortened season. They will look forward to making a strong finish and trying to go far into the playoffs.
