John Mayer information, Singer/songwriter John Mayer has achieved a great deal of success both commercially and critically over his career. Some of Mayer's influences include Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Freddie King, and B.B.King. The Connecticut born musician began playing the guitar at the age of 13, after learning from mocking a Stevie Ray Vaughan tape that his father had given him. He continued to play for a few years after and then enrolled himself at the Berklee College of Music in Boston at the age of 19. His academics at Berklee only lasted a year before he decided to move to Atlanta, GA to pursue his music career full time. In Atlanta he made a name for himself in the coffeehouse and club circuit including venues like Eddie's Attic. A year later he released his first solo album, Inside Wants Out.

Mayer's appearance in the Southwest Music Festival brought him great exposure and a recording contract with Aware Records, a subsidiary of Columbia Records. Mayer in 2003 won his first Grammy for Best Male Pop Performance for his first hit single, "Your Body is a Wonderland" from his second album, Room for Squares. The album was produced by John Alagia who previously worked with the Dave Matthews Band as well as Ben Folds Five. Mayer has toured with such bands as Maroon 5, Guster, Counting Crows, The Wallflowers and Teitur.

In 2004, Mayer changed his primary music direction and began doing a number of collaborations and guest guitar's with varying artists. He's worked with Kanye West's album to be released Bittersweet, Common's latest album Go as well as with various blues artists. Mayer described the change as, "Öclosing up shop on acoustic sensitivity".

Mayer welcomes tapings at most of his live performances, and also non commercial trading of those recordings as well. He does this because he feels it gives the fans the opportunity to recreate the live experiences and encourages fan interaction.
