Jacksonville Jaguars information, The Jacksonville Jaguars entered the league in 1995 along with the Carolina Panthers as an expansion team. Jacksonville beat out a number of cities in the running to host a new team including St. Louis, Baltimore, and Tennessee, despite Florida already having two franchises. Ultimately the League felt that Jacksonville was a popular football destination since they host the Gator Bowl each year as well as a great game between the Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs. In their inaugural season, the team did not fare so well putting up a 4-12 record. The following year, however, the team made it to the AFC conference championship. Not only was it quite a turnaround but no one saw it coming. The Jag's won their last 7 games of the season pushing their record to 9-7.
The initial team roster may have been the best to date. QB Mark Brunell, WR Jimmy Smith, and OT Tony Boselli were the anchors. Tony Boselli was their 1st player taken in the expansion draft. Unfortunately, Boselli had serious injury problems since the 1998 season rendering him almost ineffective. The Jag's did not see much success at the turn of the decade. They failed to make the playoffs each year until 2005 when they placed 2nd in the AFC South division, and eventually lost to the Patriots in the 1st round. In 2007 they made it to the second round, but again were defeated by the Patriots 31-20.
Last season took a turn for the worst, as they finished 5-11, putting them in last place for the division. The Jaguars have made some moves heading in to the 2009-2010 season. They released Fred Taylor immediately following last season after 11 hard-fought seasons with the organization. Maurice Jones-Drew will now be expected to cover the running game. Jacksonville has also picked up free agents Jerry Porter and Drayton Florence with hopes of getting the franchise back in playoff contention.
This week’s thrilling set of matchups caused for some numerous close battles and upsets. The Jacksonville Jaguars edged out the New York Jets by 2 with a field goal in the final seconds. The Cincinnati Bengals stunned Big Ben and the Pittsburgh Steelers to put themselves at 7-2. Denver QB Kyle Orton fell to injury against Washington for the entire [...]
Week 6 showed some expected blow outs but also featured a handful of stunning upsets. The Buffalo Bills were able to steal a win from the New York Jets with a field goal in OT. The Oakland Raiders defeated the Eagles for their second win of the season. After dominating the Giants 48-27 yesterday, the [...]
