The Hockey East Tournament determines who will represent New England in the Frozen Four of college hockey. Members include, Boston College, Boston University, University of Connecticut, University of Maine, University of Massachusetts, University of Massachusetts Lowell, Merrimack College, University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Providence College, and University of Vermont. In 2013, Hockey East will welcome the University of Notre Dame as the first non-New England member.
The tournament will start off with the Quarterfinals in a best-of-three series at the top-seeded teams’ home rinks. It will come down to four winners who will then compete in the semifinals at the TD Garden. The winner will advance to the NCAA Division I Ice Hockey Championship Tournament.
The tournament has been at the Boston Garden, now TD Garden, since 1987. BC has the most wins, including the past two years, with a National Championship win in 2010 against Wisconsin. 2012’s tournament is shaping up to be another exciting year with the best of New England facing off against one another.
