Georgetown Hoyas Information, The Hoyas of Georgetown University field 27 varsity teams in the NCAA Division 1 Big East Conference. Now under program mascot Jack the Bulldog, the Hoyas have been giving it their all in athletic events since the early 1920's.
Georgetown showcases a popular football team, which has lacked success recently compared to the programs earlier days. In the 1940's and '50's Georgetown football was nationally recognized, until the school refused to make the expensive investments other Catholic universities such a Notre Dame made to maintain a top-notch program. The Hoyas feature sport is men's basketball, which is a team that ranks high year by year. Their Basketball program has reached the NCAA Tournament Final Four five times, has won the Big East Tournament seven times, and has won or shared the Big East regular season title seven times.
