Garth Brooks is one of America’s most successful country music singer-songwriters. With his success in integrating pop and rock elements into his music he was able to expose country music to large audiences everywhere. He has over 70 hit singles, 15 charted albums and over 123 million albums sold just in the United States.
Brooks was started his professional career playing in Oklahoma clubs and bars after a few failed attempts finally signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in 1988.
His first self-titled album Garth Brooks, was released in 1989 and was a chart success, reaching #2 on the US country album chart. His follow up album No Fences was released two years later and spent 23 weeks at #1 on the Billboard country music chart. No Fences would become Brook’s highest-selling album and featured his signature song “Friends in Low Places”.
Brooks has won awards for Best Male Country Vocal Performance, along with Entertainer of the Year, and Top Male Vocalist. As his career was flourishing Brooks found he was having conflicts between career and family and decided to retire, his last album Scarecrow, was released in November of 2001 and although it was not considered his best album it reached #1 on both pop and country charts.
In August of 2007 Brooks announced he would release a new boxed set called The Ultimate Hits, which would include 30 of his hits on 3 discs and a DVD with music videos. He will be performing 9 shows at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri, starting on November 14th 2007.
