The Panthers were founded as an expansion team in 1993. They did surprisingly well for a first year franchise, missing the playoffs by one point. Two years later they made it to the Stanley Cup Finals only to be swept by the Colorado Avalanche. They have missed the playoffs every year since the 2000-01 season. The Panthers will not qualify for the 2006-07 playoffs.
