Florence And The Machine Information

Florence and the Machine is the name of an English indie rock band, which consist of lead singer Florence Welch and Isabella Summers who have received both critical and commercial success with their albums. Before the band gained mainstream success, they received praise from the BBC, who also played a large part in helping them rise to fame. Their debut album, “Lungs”, released on July 6th, 2009, held the No.2 position for its first five weeks on the UK Albums Chart. It eventually went No.1 and was on the charts for twenty-eight consecutive weeks. It became one of the best selling albums of both 2009 and 2010. It produced the singles “Kiss with a Fist” and “Dog Days Are Over”, with both songs being featured in movies like “Jennifer’s Body” and television shows such as “Community” and “Skins”. Further songs such as “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)”, “Drumming Song” and “Hurricane Drunk” all helped propel the album’s sales in other regions as well as keep it on the charts in their native UK.

In August 2011 the single “What the Water Gave Me” was released from their upcoming album “Ceremonials”, which was then released in October 2011. It reached the No.1 spot on the UK album charts in its first week and peaked at number six on the US Billboard 200. The band has performed at a number of festivals including Oxygen 2010, Isle of Wight Festival 2010, Roskilde Festival 2010 and they headlined Latitude 2010. At the end of their Cosmic Love Tour they played at the Glastonbury Festival 2012 and drew one of the biggest crowds of the day. Their songs have been remixed and used as mashups for artists such as Dizzie Rascal and they opened up for U2 on the North American leg of their U2 360 Tour in June and July 2011. They also performed in Times Square for the 2011 Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin Eve special. They have also played on numerous late night talk shows as well as daytime TV performances and are currently touring in support of their current album.
